I would like to welcome you to our website. Established as a town in 1905, Wheatland is the Platte County Seat and market center for the area. Western hospitality and friendliness greets native and visitor alike each day. Here, folks wave at each other while driving down the street and it is not uncommon to see neighbors helping neighbors. Wyoming values abound in Wheatland and the rich heritage of western history, farming, and ranching draw many to the area. Good public schools, parks, and close proximity to outdoor recreational opportunities make Wheatland a wonderful place for citizens of every age.
The officers of the Wheatland Police Department are proud of the service they provide to those in the community. Relatively low crime rates, case solvability, and safe streets are possible mainly because of the strong support by both the citizens of the town and the commitment by the Town Council towards public safety. The department is exceptionally well trained and equipped. Officers set a high standard for professionalism while working in the community as well as with many other law enforcement agencies.
Strengthening community partnerships is a means to continue building a long-lasting foundation for future generations. As a part of a growing community, the Wheatland Police Department’s mission to provide a safe environment for the citizens of Wheatland is the focus of the important work our officers and support staff do.

The Wheatland Police Department will strive to maintain a safe environment to live, work, and visit by furnishing the highest quality of law enforcement, support services, and public information available to us.
We will professionally interact with our community by being highly visible and ensuring each police contact is carried out fairly, impartially, and with respect.
We will achieve our mission through professional standards, continual education, and training of our officers.
Employment Opportunities
The Wheatland Police Department is accepting applications for one Peace Officer, the position will be open until filled.
Employment Requirements
- Age minimum: 21
- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Experience: No experience needed
- Must successfully pass a physical assessment, and written exam. Physical assessment standards are the same as the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy
- Successfully pass an oral interview by the hiring agency.
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Must successfully complete an exam by a physician and a psychologist
- Must be able to become certified through the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy as a Peace Officer
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Not have been convicted of any felony crime.
- Free of any physical, emotional or mental conditions which might adversely affect the applicant’s performance as Peace Officer.
