Department
The Town of Wheatland is home to four (4) parks, two (2) little league fields, two (2) soft ball fields, and one (1) Legion field. The Parks Department is responsible for all landscaping, outdoor maintenance, watering, mowing and cleaning of all Town of Wheatland parks and public properties.
All parks in the Town of Wheatland have animal waste clearing stations to allow owners to safely and sanitarily clean up after their pets. These stations include a bag dispenser and a trash can for the waste. This is in accordance to Town of Wheatland Municipal Code 8.20.010: A person owning, keeping, possessing or harboring any animal shall promptly remove and dispose of, in a sanitary manner, feces left by the animal on any public property and on any private property not owned by such person or lawfully occupied by such person. Violation of these provisions shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine of not more than $750.00, and not less than $25.00.
Town of Wheatland Parks and their amenities:
Lewis Park – 200 block of 8th Street:
- Tennis Courts
- Basketball Court
- Fenced in Skate Park
- Horseshoe Pits
- Picnic Shelters/Tables. (The Town of Wheatland does not accept reservations for these however, residents may put a paper up on shelters 24 hours in advance with their name on it to “reserve” the shelters.)
- Playgrounds and equipment
- Frisbee Golf Course
- Pickleball Court
- Band Shell/Stage-Town of Wheatland does accept reservations for the Band Shell. A $100 deposit is required. This deposit will be returned upon return of the key and Parks Department report of no damage to the building. All reservations must be made at Town Hall.
- Walking paths
- Overnight camping-Town of Wheatland does NOT accept reservations for camping sites. There is no electrical or water hook-ups at the campground. Three night maximum stay is requested and there is no set fee for the sites. All services, including the dump station are donation-based.
Pocket Park – 700 block of 9th Street
- Picnic Tables
- Farmer’s markets during the late spring and summer on Saturday mornings
- Town of Wheatland does not accept reservations for events at the Pocket Park
- Bathrooms accessible to the public.
Dearinger Park – 1500 block of Rowley Street
- Large, open space.
- Playground equipment
Jim & Betty Dunham Memorial Dog Park – 1500 block of Rowley Street
- Large fenced area for dogs
- Benches with some shade
- Shelters with picnic tables outside of the fenced area
Yeadon Park – 2000 block of Fertig Drive
- Bus Stop shelter for kids
- Playground equipment
- Swings
